FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Walter Kenji Yamada
Walter Kenji Yamada91, passed on November 30, 2019 at home. He was born to Seizo and Misano Yamada on February 28, 1928. He was the second son of 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls. Walter graduated from Farrington High School in 1946 and joined the Army/Air Force where he served in Japan and Montana. He was discharged in 1949. After discharge he attended the UH Manoa and electrical school until he went to work at Pearl Harbor then US Customs where spent the rest of his working career until he retired in 1990 with 41 years of government service. He married Emily Yokoyama in 1953 and they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in August. They moved to Kailua in 1956 and their passion for orchids began. After retirement they became very active in the Windward Orchid Society. Walter has numerous awards for his orchids that he received over the years. Walter and Emily also enjoyed traveling to visit their sons and grandchildren in California, going to Las Vegas several times a year, visiting Japan, Europe and various parts of the US. During volleyball season they could be found at all the wahine home volleyball games as they were season ticket holders for many years. Walter is survived by his wife Emily, daughter Naomi Ashman (Michael), sons, Eric and Chris (Shari), 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 24 with Visitation at 9:00; Service at 10:00 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Burial at 2:00pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
