Alice Yukie Shimizu Moon
Alice Yukie Shimizu Moon of Ocean View, Hawaii, died in Redmond, WA. on January 30, 2016. Alice was born in Pearl City on May 7, 1929. She is survived by her children: Charlotte Moon (Dan Slaven), Charles Moon, Brian (Judi) Moon, and Cindy Moon (Greg) Swent; five grandchildren: Jeffrey Moon, Deanna Garcia, Kevin Moon, Justin Moon, Brandon Moon; three great grandchildren; brother Frank Shimizu; many beloved nieces and nephews, and loving friend Mary Stanton of Ocean View. In 1949, Alice married then U.S. Army Lieutenant Samuel Moon of Spreckelsville, Maui. They started a family and traveled the world. When Sam retired from military service, they settled in San Diego. Alice became a talented seamstress and made spinnakers for North Sails. The family moved back to Hawaii in 1978. Alice worked at the Dole Pineapple Cannery until she and Sam retired to Ocean View. Alice's motto was "Chance Um!" She embraced challenges and took risks. She was strong and self-sufficient. Her personality, character and sense of humor made her unique and impossible to forget. Preceding her in death was her husband Major Samuel Moon, U.S.A., Retired; and siblings Tom, Herbert, Duffa, Grace, and Betty. A Memorial Service will be held at The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl on January 14, 2020 at 11:30 a.m.
