GEORGE NELSON MANULANI CRABBE
1928-2020 George Nelson Manulani Crabbe Jr, 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, surrounded by family and the love of his life. George was born in Honolulu on Aug. 1, 1928. He lived in Honoka'a and Hilo before moving to Honolulu. He attended Kamehameha Boarding School, c/o 1947, where he excelled in Football, Basketball, and met his high school sweetheart before moving to Willamette University to play football as the halfback. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952. Employed by Hawaiian Airlines, where he served as Director of the Honolulu Station, Director of Overseas Contract Services, Station Manager of Hilo, Regional manager of Maui District, and as the President of Hawaii Pacific Air and Ramp manager for Pan American Airways. He is a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as Bishop of Kaimuki Ward. George loved to serve and will be forever remembered for his love for his family, music, and joyful singing. He is survived by his beloved wife Leona Akana of 69 years, his five children Lenny Mae, Janna (Gordon) Hopkins, Manu Crabbe, William Crabbe (Jennifer), Keola (Darlene) Crabbe, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, his sister Judy Olsen, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. A celebration of life honoring George Crabbe will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kahala Chapel at 9 am for viewing and 10am Service. Burial services will be held at Hawaii State Veteran's Cemetery, Kaneohe at 1pm.
