FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Kinuye Terada
Kinuye TeradaKinuye Terada passed away suddenly but peacefully in the comfort of her own home on December 31, 2019. She passed away with dignity and elegance, just as she lived everyday, with strength and courage as she enjoyed her independent life. Kinuye Terada nee Fukuzawa was born in Osaka, Japan on January 6, 1930. She was the only child of Eiichi and Man Fukuzawa both of Shizuoka-Ken, Japan. She spent her early years until 1935 in Osaka, when her father was transferred to Mitsui Bussan's Seattle Branch. In Seattle, for 5 years, she attended the Bailey Gatzert Elementary School where she acquired her fluent English skills. She took Japanese language and Japanese buyoh lessons. Her week ends with her parents were spent fishing. She recalled fondly how every year, they eagerly waited for the opening day of fishing season with many fun fishing stories as they fished in Lake Washington, Puget Sound, and off Bainbridge Island. Upon her father's transfer to Mitsui Bussan's Tokyo office, Kinuye was enrolled at Aoyama Gakuin where she attended elementary school and graduated from their Girls' School after WWII. Her married life began at 18 years old, in 1948 in Tokyo to George Terada (originally from Auburn, WA, (formerly known as Thomas, WA). They would spend the next 57 years as US expats in Tokyo with Kinuye's mother, Man and raising their two daughters. Kinuye was a busy full time house wife but she found time to do embroidery projects, knitted sweaters, and received her teaching license with the Ohara School of Ikebana. Her husband George wanted to move back to the States, at age 92 and Kinuye, then, 75, sold their home, and moved to Honolulu in 2005. They loved Hawaii's warm climate, the laid back life style, and the friendly ohana spirit. George lived 'til 100 years old. Kinuye continued to live in their condo with a very independent spirit. She is survived by daughter, Bette Mitsuyo Terada and husband Richard Yukihisa Hayashi, grandson, Nathan Yukihisa Hayashi, girlfriend, Michiko Kajita, and great-grandson, Isamu Ryosuke Hayashi all of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and daughter, Jan Kiiko Fisk of Lynnwood, Washington. Mom/Grandma Kinu will be remembered fondly as happy, fun, and gracious. She was a mentor who leaves behind her wisdom and kind heart for those of us who were so fortunate to be in her bright light. Funeral Services will be held February 10, 2010 at 3:00PM Visitation at 2:00PM at Hosoi Garden Mortuary at 30 North Kukui Street, Honolulu 96817 (please note the time has changed to 3:00PM from 5:00PM as originally scheduled) In lieu of flowers or okoden, if you wish please consider donations to a charity of your choice or to Hawaii Meals on Wheels, Soto Mission of Hawaii Betsuin, or to Moiliili Community Center.
