FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Erin Kaileen Burris Bartlett
Erin Kaileen Burris Bartlett ERIN KAILEEN BURRIS BARTLETT Erin passed away January 10, 2020, in Medford, Oregon from complications of severe pneumonia. She was 33 years old, and was born in Kailua, O'ahu on May 9, 1986. Erin had been a medical aide at the Skylark Residential Community near her home in Ashland, Oregon, and was beloved by the residents for whom she cared. She also was a teaching assistant at Waiawa Elementary School in Wahiawa in Hawai'i, working with hearing challenged kindergarteners, as well as a teacher's aide at the School for the Deaf and Blind in Honolulu. Erin grew up in Kailua, and graduated from Punahou School in the Class of 2004. She attended Southern Oregon University, graduating with a degree in Psychology, and a second major in early childhood education with a specialty in American Sign Language. Her love of ASL began in 4th grade at Punahou with a teacher whose son was hearing challenged. The teacher taught his Punahou class some of the basics of sign language, and Erin fell in love with the magic of using her hands to speak. While still in high school she volunteered at the School for the Deaf and Blind, following that up during college by taking all the ASL courses SOU offered. In 2019 Erin suffered from the debilitating Guillain Barre syndrome. It was during her long period of recovery that she contracted a lethal form of pneumonia. Erin is survived by her daughter, Brynn Kaileen Bartlett; her parents, Beverly Creamer Burris and Gerald 'Jerry' Burris, Jr.; her sister, Jennifer Burris Staton and husband, Francisco Staton; niece, Elu Josephine Staton Burris and a large loving extended family. Private services for family and close friends will be held in Lanikai, and there will be a Celebration of her Life in Ashland on her Birthday, May 9, 2020.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
