Our beloved Dad/Grandpa (Joe Hitoshi Mochizuki) passed away peacefully in his home in Honolulu, HI on Monday, February 3, 2020 at the age of 89. Joe was born in Honolulu, HI to Mitsutaro and Asayo (Sasaki) Mochizuki, the 12th of 13 children. The family was raised in the Palama neighborhood and Joe graduated from Farrington High School. Shortly thereafter he served in the U.S. Army, which included serving our country in the Korean War. Following his military commitment he was hired as a pipe fitter for Hawaiian Electric Co. where he worked until his retirement in 1986. He married the love of his life, Leona L. Wittrock and together they raised six children. In Joe's earlier years he was a prolific diver and shared many of his diving adventures. A favorite pastime was guessing which college and pro football teams would win or lose during the season. Joe was also the family's head chef as he enjoyed cooking and preparing a variety of tasty dishes for the 'ohana. Most of all Joe loved and cared for his family unconditionally. He took pleasure in spending time with his children and grandchildren. Often stocking up on soda, ice cream, bubble gum and edamame for their visits. Joe embodied the true spirit of aloha, and welcomed family & friends into his home with a warm embrace and gracious hospitality. Fond memories of our Dad & Papa will forever live in our hearts. Joe is preceded in passing by his wife, Leona, son, Vernon J. (Sandra) Decker, and daughter, Darlene Edena (Eddie) Plaster. He is survived by four children, Dwight L.
