"The family is sorry to relate to you that Richard G. Bates of Kamuela, passed away February 6th 2020. The Bates family moved to Hawaii from the bay area in 1963. Richard graduated from Hawaii Pacific University with a business degree. Dickie was a well known Big Island painting contractor, avid golfer and family man. Adventurous world traveler, he passed away in Pattaya, Thailand at the age of 67. Despite recent medical difficulties he continued to inspire us. We take solace imagining him at the ultimate 19th hole. He is survived by daughter Anna (Javier); granddaughter Mila; brother Chris (Pam) and cousins Barbara (Hilleary) Sabine, Caroline and Duncan.
