Janete Lee Howes
Janete passed away at home on February 14, 2020 after a four month illness. She was born in Baker, Oregon on January 16, 1937. Her family lived for a time in La Grande, Oregon and Aberdeen, Washington before settling in Roseburg, Oregon in 1947 when Janete was just starting 5th grade. She graduated from Roseburg High School in 1955 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State College in 1959. After graduating from OSC, she moved to San Francisco to pursue a business career and worked as a secretary in the Bank of America. She met Tom Howes on a chance encounter shortly thereafter. Tom was in the Air Force and stationed at Hamilton AFB just north of San Francisco. A year later, on June 18, 1960, they married and spent the next 27 years in the Air Force living all over the United States: Texas, Mississippi, Virginia, Alabama, New York, Oklahoma and Hawaii. After the Air Force, they spent several years in various places including Hawaii, Texas and London, England and finally settled for good in Aiea, Hawaii in 1997. They have two boys Bill and Brian and are the proud grandparents of two girls Erica and Caroline, and three boys Andrew, Dylan and Leif. She joined the Assistance League of Hawaii (ALH) in 1989 and remained an active member until she became ill in 2019. She was an active member of her International Sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. She enjoyed her family, singing in the choir at First Presbyterian Church, playing bridge, going to the beach, reading and traveling. Memorial Service were held on February 20.
