Tom was born March 14, 1951 to Dr. Agatin and Paula Abbott in Seattle, the fifth of seven Abbott children. Tom attended Punahou School ('70) where he ran track, played football and made lifelong friends. An island boy at heart, Tom fondly told stories of sailing his Hobie Cat from Lanikai beach to the Mokulua Islands while working at the legendary Buzz's Steakhouse in Lanikai. An avid golfer, Tom began his love for the game as a young boy playing at Pali Golf Course.
Following high school, Tom attended the University of Washington ('74) where he earned a degree in Economics. After graduation, Tom returned to Oahu where he taught economics at Punahou School and began his career in commercial real estate at Alexander & Baldwin. Tom created a successful 47-year career in commercial real estate working in Seattle.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and eldest sister, Paula (Gordon) Rounds. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary (Rockwell); their three children: Jessica (DJ) Powers, David Abbott, Annie Abbott (Colin Curtis) and two grandchildren; his siblings: Willa (Eric) Romanchak, Margo (Bob) Rowland, Sandy Abbott, Ethan (Jean) Abbott, Lyman Abbott, along with many nieces and nephews.
In Tom's memory, donations may be sent to the Agatin and Paula Abbott Endowment Fund for geological excursions at Punahou School or to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
