Jose graduated in 1957 from Mapua Institute of Technology with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He moved to Hawaii in 1969, his family following a year later. He worked as a Civil Engineer for the State of Hawaii Dept. of Transportation, started as Construction Engineer, worked his way up to become the Head of the Construction Section, Hwy Division, DOT. On July 1990, he became the Sate Resident Engineer for the Trans Koolau H-3 project. He supervised and coordinated Construction Management, Support Consultant in administering five (5) contracts for this project. (Haiku Tunnels and Approaches, Halawa Tunnels and Approaches, Furnishing and Installing Tunnel Monitoring Systems, and Architectural, Electrical and Mechanical Finish). Jose retired in 1997 after 27 years of service with State of Hawaii. After retirement; he worked at SSFM Engineers, Inc. as a Construction Engineer and at TM Designers. He was also an active officer and member with Annak ti Batac of Hawaii and HAMA.
He is survived by his children; daughter - Flordeliza Piniol Romualdo (Danilo), son - Rey Christopher Piniol, daughter - Lodie Piniol Celebrado (Patrick), and son - Joseph Taligatos Piniol (Lourdes), 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
