Born May 21, 1934 in Wallsbüll, Germany. Died July 1, 2020 in Honolulu. Beloved husband, father and grandfather. Former Associate Dean and Emeritus Professor, School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), University of Hawaii. Predeceased by son Kay. Survived by wife Ursula, grandsons Lorenz and Carlo and daughter-in-law Terrie and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A mathematician and oceanographer, he made important contributions to the theory of ocean waves. A forty-five year resident of Honolulu, Lorenz was proudest of his key role in the founding and development of SOEST. He will be missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Private service and cremation. A Celebration of Life in Honolulu and Burial in Preetz, Germany will take place at a later date.
