A retired civil engineer and University of Hawaii graduate, he was a member of Peng Hui Fraternity, Community Church of Honolulu, Kong Chow Benevolent Association, UH Alumni Association, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Willard was a quiet, diligent, and devoted husband, father, uncle, and Kung Kung. He was a lifelong learner, recorder of the family's genealogy, and an avid UH sports fan who enjoyed traveling and gardening. His life bore fruit for all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma, son Randall (Cara) Nip, daughters Valerie (Peter) Micklus, Liane (Lance) Teramoto and Shari (Scott) Kaulukukui, grandsons Ryan (Nicole) Micklus, Michael Nip, Landon Teramoto and Casey Kaulukukui, granddaughter Kari (Joby) Colmenar and 3 great- grandsons.
The youngest in the family of Chan Poo and Sun Yung Nip, Willard was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Hing Chong Nip, Gertrude Chun, Hing Kee Nip, Betsy Wong, Elizabeth Wong, Dorothy Young, Hung Sum Nip, Jennie Tom, and Dr. George Nip.
