Marlene was a 13 year Punahou student, and started a family legacy that includes her daughter Kawehi and granddaughter Anela. She had many unforgettable memories with the class of 1960 who became lifelong friends. She was an avid traveler and had a wonderful longtime career at Hawaiian Airlines, known as "Mal" by her many friends. Her family had great adventures exploring the world because of her time at Hawaiian.
Marlene is greatly missed by her husband, retired firefighter Eben Kala`au, daughter Kawehi Kala`au Apo (Corey), granddaughter Anela Apo Higgins (Parker) and great-grandson Duke Kaha`aheo Higgins. She is also survived by daughters Marlene, Kanani and Ebenette, sisters Jalna Springer Keala and Sasha Springer Asato and welcomed by brother Clyde Springer and her "big boy," Dubs. Many cousins, nieces and nephews will remember her fun-loving personality, love of celebrity news and fashion and excitement for family parties.
Marlene's smile, laugh, and unconditional love will always be remembered. She loved shopping and wrapping gifts for others, trying new restaurants, watching movies and game shows, reading, crosswords, puzzles and coloring. She found joy in beautiful flowers, Hawaiian music and celebrating special occasions. Marlene was a great friend, loved chatting on the phone and writing letters and cards to let you know she was thinking of you. We will never stop thinking of her and the value she brought to our lives.
We will honor her with joy at a later date with her favorite plumeria and Hawaiian music. Mahalo, The Kala'au Family 706 Pahumele Place, Kailua, HI 96734.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
