FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Henry “Hank” Lowell Martin
Henry 95 years old, passed on October 22, 2020 from COVID complications at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center. Hank was born in New York City on June 27, 1925. His parents, Jose Martinez-de-Taveale-Andrede, an immigrant from Spain, and Fanny Barge, an immigrant from Paris, France, met and married in New York City. Hank grew up in a "rough" neighborhood in New York City, and joined the Army for service in WWII. He was present at the Normandy invasion. After WWII, under the GI bill, he obtained a Bachelor's degree from NYU in Engineering. He met his first wife, Donna Mizer, in Columbus, Ohio, married and eventually settled in Huntsville, Alabama, working for NASA at Redstone Arsenal as an aerospace engineer. Hank was part of the Apollo 13 team that put the astronauts on the moon on July 29, 1969. Enamored with the Pacific Ocean, he retired to Hawaii in 1976 and married Gladys Watanabe Tani, who passed on July 24, 2020. Hank was fun, easygoing, loved ice cream, pizza, Hershey Bars (a holdover from K rations), Dr. Pepper, football, lifting his dumbbells, bossa nova guitar, big band music, hated rock and roll, and worshipped beautiful women of the silver screen.

Hank is survived by his daughter Leila J. Martin, and her children Kai Martin Tawa and Annee Hansen, Mack Martin Tawa; Hank's stepchildren Beverly and Danny Vierra, Eloise and Rick Abinante, Milton and Kelly Tani, Jason and Cody Tani, Step-grandchildren Nina Vierra and Jamie Almarez, Karana Vierra and John Ho'okano, Kawena and Jeremy Kamaka'ala, Nona and Austin Duke, Jacob Paresa, Jordan and Sharolyn, Kyle, Garrison, Austin, and Kolton Tani, and great-grandchildren Harper and Leland Duke, Jaren Tani.
