Born February 19, 1939 in San Luis Obispo, CA, Darrel proudly attended Richmond High and UC Berkeley (1962). Following his marriage to Lorna Larsen of Honolulu, HI, the couple moved to the Islands, where Darrel built a dynamic career in Advertising. His creative concepts, intuitive marketing skills, and gift for developing business synergies enhanced the draw of Hawai'i as a tourism destination for all, not just the affluent.
A dedicated mentor and storyteller, Darrel had a passion for history, music, and people. He was gregarious, had a quick wit, and always wanted to share life stories.
Preceded in death by his beloved brother Phil, his mother Bernice, and father, Kenneth, Darrel is survived by wife Marily; children: Kate, Erik & John Paul; adored grandchildren: Elise, Nicole, Kamuela, Gigi, Aryc, Esia, Lucas & Tomia; brother Mark; nephews: JP, David, Sef & Kyle and niece Anne. We all benefitted from his wisdom, big heart, and protective spirit. As a man of faith, we know he now rests in peace.
Aloha 'oe, Darrel, Dad, Grandpa, Tio… until we meet again…
A Celebration of Life will be held in 2021.
