FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Roland Alejo Bueno, Sr.
Roland Alejo Bueno, Sr.Roland Alejo Bueno, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully among his children and relatives on October 19, 2020. He was born in Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Philippines and graduated from the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a focus in graphic design. He went on to work as a typesetter for the Manila Chronicle and in the art department of Mercury Drug Company where he eventually rose to a management position in which he was in charge of package design.

Mr. Bueno immigrated to Hawaii after he married his beloved wife, Maria Agustin. He was first employed for five years as the Art Director for Budar Advertising in Waikiki, then worked for 32 years with the State of Hawaii as a Senior Graphic Designer and Supervisor for the Driver's Education Division of the State of Hawaii, where his artistic work on the "Be Aware" DUI poster is his legacy (jail cartoon - man behind bars); he retired in 2006. He also held a real estate broker license and helped clients find the homes of their dreams. He was an active community volunteer at neighborhood, church, school, and civic organizations in Kalihi and was a prolific writer for Bannawag magazine.

He will be deeply missed by his son, Roland Bueno, Jr.; daughter, Marianne Bueno Olson and her husband, Jim Olson; grandchildren Mia Olson, Nick Olson, and Justine Olson; and many relatives and friends. He will be interred at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, private family services only due to covid restrictions.

Memorial Mass will be at St. John the Baptist Church on Fri. 11/20/20, 10am - please contact Roland Jr. at 808-782-6750 to register (max 50 attendants, masked and distanced).
