During his time at St. Louis high School and the University of Hawaii, his outgoing personality helped him make many lifelong friends, a trait that translated well into his career and success as an engineer and leader in his field. In college, he joined the Tu Chiang Sheh fraternity, which gave him the opportunity to meet Clarice, a member of the Te Chih Sheh sorority. They married in 1974, traveled the world extensively together, and made numerous friends before Clarice passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
