Haruye Katekaru
Haruye KatekaruPassed away peacefully at 93 in Aiea. Born and raised in Ewa, she was the eldest child of Chosei and Kama Sakima who immigrated from Okinawa. She attended Ewa Elementary and Waipahu High School. She was employed as a seamstress until her retirement at Alfred Shaheen and Hawaii Nei Sportswear.

During her retirement she enjoyed taking ballroom dancing, Sogetsu Ikebana, Aiea water exercise classes, Luk Tung Kuen, Waipahu Senior Group, Paranku Club of Hawaii and was a member of the Hawaii Okinawa Association, Nishihara Chojin Kai and Pearl City Community Church. She enjoyed traveling to Japan, Okinawa, Alaska, Canada, California, New York, and Las Vegas.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband Masato Katekaru; daughter Jessie Katekaru; brothers Yasuo and Fumio Sakima, she is survived by her son Lance (Maile) Katekaru, daughter Cora (Jonathan) Cho and granddaughters Stephanie (Andrew) Gil, Sherilyn Cho, and Nicole Katekaru.

She will be fondly remembered for her generous spirit, caring heart, and love of family. A special thank you to her wonderful caregivers for providing her with their compassionate care.
