Mildred Mitsuko Tanaka passed away on October 23, 2020. At the time of her death, Mildred was 79. Born in Hilo, Hawaii on November 21, 1940 she was the youngest of five children. Mildred graduated from Hilo High School in 1960.Mildred was a stay-at-home wife and mother, who babysat children while she raised her own children. After her children grew up, she decided to go out and seek work. She worked part-time at St. Louis Drive-In located in Kaimuki and got a state job working as a cafeteria worker at Kalihi Waena Elementary School. She worked for 11 years before retiring in 2006. She loved her stuffed animals, especially frogs and dogs. She loved all types of flowers, especially sunflowers and roses.
Mildred was known to be a stronghearted person, who never took anything for granted. As a mother, she would give everything to see her children happy from the moment they were born. As a family, all she showed us was a smile, and her unconditional love. She was a humble, quiet, and generous person. Family enjoyed her contagious smile, and the feeling of joy while in her presence. She would always show concern for others before her own well-being. She will always be remembered as having the sweetest and gentlest soul with a delight in her voice. And her sweet demeanor always made the family feel welcomed.
Mildred is survived by her husband, Albert Tanaka, and five children: Lori Hirano, Lloyd, Deborah, Scot, and Chad Tanaka, and five grandchildren: Mason, Michaela, McKenna, Madden, and Ekana (pet) Hirano. Sister Kiyoko Aoki (Kiyoto); Brothers Glenn Kawai (Toshie) and Harold Kawai. Preceded in death by Parents Takaichi and Tokie Kawai, and Sister Tomiko Wataoka.
Mildred's unique qualities as an individual has many words that are truly positive. We are truly blessed to have her as our mother. Your family will deeply miss you, and we will continue to always love you. Thank you so much for your unconditional love as a wife to your husband, as a mother to your children, and as a grandmother to your grandchildren.
