Shirley Kina NagataShirley Kina Nagata, 62, passed away on October 5, 2020 surrounded by her husband and daughters. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and teacher who touched many lives throughout her life.

Shirley was a compassionate and thoughtful teacher, who educated young minds and made each and every student feel special about themselves and excited about learning. She taught for 12 years on Maui at Sacred Hearts School in Lahaina and Christ the King School in Kahului. She continued her passion for teaching for 19 years at Kaimuki Christian School in Honolulu.

Shirley was happiest when she was spending time with family and friends, traveling, fishing, riding around the island or just sitting around a cookout with a cold beverage.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Shunichi "Lefty"and Tsuruko "Becky" Kina. She is survived by her husband of 39 years Glenn K. Nagata, daughters Shelby Nagata-Chun (Ian) and Kelcie Lei Kunioka (Maika), siblings Jason Kina, Karen Suehisa (Wayne) and Elaine Kina, grandchildren Talan Nagata-Chun, Kina Nagata-Chun and Cade Kunioka.

A COVID safe drive by memorial will be held on Sunday December 20, 2020 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Kaimuki Christian School lower parking lot. To lessen traffic in the area, the family suggests that visitors with last names between A-K plan to arrive between 3:00-4:30 and L-Z plan to arrive between 4:30 and 6:00. The lower parking lot is located on the corner of 13th Avenue and Mahina Street and please ENTER on 13th Avenue going Mauka. The family requests that all visitors remain in their cars and wear face masks at all times.
