Janet Matsue Hirata
90, entered eternal peace on Nov. 29. The youngest and last nisei of the Hirata family, she joins her parents Kwantsu and Tsuru, her brother and five sisters. Born and raised on Kauai, she attended the University of Hawaii and Wayne State University in Michigan. With a masters degree in Public Health, Janet worked as an Occupational Therapist. Recruited by the World Health Organization, she initiated OT training programs in Japan and Taiwan. Janet had a passion for the arts and took pride as a favorite student of the artist, Jean Charlot. Kauai and family members were favorite subjects of her paintings. Janet was generous to friends and family and hosted many gatherings at her home. She was a member of the University Ave. Baptist Church, Sashiki-Chinen Doshikai, OGSH, and Hui O Laulima. She is survived and will be missed by three generations of nieces and nephews, many cherished friends in Hawaii, Japan, and the mainland. Privates services will be held at a later date.
