FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

ROY SUEAKI MORITSUGU
Roy Sueaki Moritsugu, 79, of Kaneohe, Hawaii, passed away peacefully at home in Los Angeles, December 8, 2020. He is survived by his loving family: wife of 53 years, Carole (nee Ishii); children Kathy (Matt) Walker and Janet (Chris) Piiwaa; grandchildren Chelsea Walker, Jayden Piiwaa and Alexie Piiwaa; and siblings Sadaji Moritsugu, Florence Miyashiro and Alice Arakaki.

The youngest of Yasuichi and Yoshiko Moritsugu's eight children, Roy attended Castle High School from 1956-1959 before graduating from University of Kansas in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. A veteran of the Air Force, he served in the engineering corps based out of Edwards Air Force Base in California before being granted an honorable discharge in 1968. Roy continued to work in the government sector for another 36 years with a career comprising various roles at the Department of Water and Power for the City of Los Angeles, responsible for planning street lighting and storm drains, until his retirement in 2003.

Roy enjoyed watching Kansas basketball games, gambling in Las Vegas, doing projects around the house and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Though seemingly quiet and reserved, he was an excellent conversationalist who showed genuine interest in the responses of all he interacted with. Combined with a quick wit and dry sense of humor, he was well-liked by all who knew him. He will be missed. Funeral services are private and the family requests no monetary offerings or flowers please.
