Shigeto graduated from Lanai High School where he was president of the student council, and later enrolled in and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Business Administration. After graduating, he was drafted into the Army, and served in the Korean War. He later returned to Hawaii, and settled on Oahu where he married Natsuko Nakama in 1957. Shigeto worked for finance company CIT, and later at the University of Hawaii as the fiscal officer for the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Literatures.
He loved to travel, and took extensive tours throughout the world. He especially loved going to Las Vegas and playing Blackjack and the Poker machines. Shigeto was an ardent U.H. fan, and besides attending football, baseball, basketball, and volleyball games, he also took yearly trips to watch the football team play on the mainland. Additionally, he loved watching the Yankees, Lakers, and 49ers. His other hobbies included wood working, beer can collecting, reading, sudoku, and basketball.
Survived by his wife Natsuko; daughters: Gail (Jeffrey) Minami-Judd, and Jill (Jon) Omori; sons: John (Winnie) Minami and Mark Minami; grandchildren: Reymus and Kyra Nakaki, La'akea, Lahiki, and Annie Judd.
