FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Patricia Fung Chin Lau Chang
Patricia Fung Chin Lau ChangPassed peacefully at home on December 24, 2020 at the age of 94. Born in Honolulu as one of 12 siblings, she graduated from Roosevelt High School. She met her husband of 70 years, Pon Chang, when they both worked at Hawaiian Pineapple Company. Later, Pat helped operate Waikiki Lau Yee Chai, and worked to establish the Waikiki Business Plaza, Waikiki Shopping Plaza and the Ambassador Hotel which became integral parts of the Honolulu tourism economy. She was vital to the creation and management of historic restaurants such as the Top of Waikiki and the second Waikiki Lau Yee Chai.

While Pat was an exceptional business person and a pioneer for women in her day, she also had a big, boundless heart. She was fiercely devoted to her family - not only her husband, four children, and grandchildren, but also her extended family. In her quiet, unassuming way, she offered generosity, kindness, and support to anyone. She was always the gracious host and worked to ensure that many were allowed the ability to attend college and beyond.

Pat enjoyed reading, playing mahjong with her family, ballroom dancing, and especially traveling. She felt grateful she was able to see so much of the world, but was always glad to return home to her beloved Hawaii.

Pat is survived by her sister, Violet Pang, four children; Lindley, Kenneth (Haroldwyn), Steven (Joanne), and Patti (Linda), five grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren. Private services will be held at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Pon Chang.
