She was very proud of her Okinawan heritage and where she came from. May grew up in Waiahole Valley where her family still farms today and took great pleasure in being the daughter of the "Sweet Lady of Waiahole." Many of her family and friends called her the "Mayor" of Kaneohe because she not only knew you, but your parents and grandparents. May enjoyed her travels to Japan, China, Europe, Canada, as well as numerous trips to Seattle to visit her daughter Sheila and family.
May is survived by her two daughters, Lisa (Robert) Flores and Sheila (Greg) Cottingham; 3 grandchildren: Evan, Brett, and Nicole; sisters: Sharon (Clinton) Takamori; Darlene (Daniel) Yoshizumi; Kathleen (Scott) Saito and brother Wayne Matayoshi.
