She met Seiji Nitta while growing up in the same neighborhood in Waipahu. They were married in 1956 and enjoyed 60 wonderful years together until his passing in 2016.
She enjoyed hobbies, such as Japanese doll making, sewing and crocheting. As a testament to her love of crocheting and her patience, she made beautiful tablecloths, bedspreads, and table runners, some of which are still on display around her house. After graduating from Waipahu High School in 1944, she began her career at Sears Roebuck and Co. She retired in 1989 and spent her time working in the yard and travelling. She enjoyed many trips with Seiji to Japan, the east and west coast, Las Vegas, and, of course, to Seattle to visit their son and his family.
Haruyo is survived by her children, Brian (Diane) Nitta and Susan (Rand) Totoki. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Kevin (Kaitie) Nitta, Robyn (Jeffrey) Akimseu, Christopher Nitta and Jennifer Totoki and was blessed with 3 great-grandchildren, Felix, Arlo and Ephraim Nitta.
The family would like to thank everyone for their loving thoughts and prayers.
