FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Fujiyo “Violet” Kuroyama
Fujiyo Fujiyo "Violet" Kuroyama, beloved and treasured Mom, Grandma, and Great- Grandma, passed away in Hilo on July 22, 2020.

At the venerable age of 103, Mom departed from her son Gary, daughter Evelyn (Edwin), grandchildren Mari (Andy) and Joni (Brad), and great grandchildren (Peyton, Cassidy). She's now eternally reunited with loved ones who predeceased her - husband Hachiro, baby Kikuyo, daughter-in-law Lily, precious sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Although greatly saddened, we've been blessed to have Mom's loving presence with us for many years.

Born and raised in Honuapo, Kau, Mom worked hard to help her family, and grew up loving the ocean as she went fishing with her brothers and sisters to help with the meals. Mom settled in Hilo and became an accomplished seamstress. Her love for flowers blossomed as she and Dad excelled in raising a variety of hybrid orchids, catalaya, and other florals for many years. Her love for people never dimmed as she devoted herself to her children and grandchildren, and to Dad as his primary caregiver. Mom lived her life by unconditionally sharing with others, whether it was sharing time to help family, relatives, and friends; sharing her sweet lychee, delicious oranges, and ono lemon from her fruit trees; or sharing her favorite chocolates!

Mom's inner light radiated love, humility, compassion, gratitude, grace, and a sense of humor towards family, relatives, caregivers, friends, and whomever she met. Sustained by a deep faith in Amida Buddha, Mom enjoyed and felt blessed to attend church services and events, and was gratified to be among friends at Aunty Sally's Nutrition Program, Project Dana, Kamana, and other activities. Mom belonged to the Buddhist Women's Association, Hawaii Shima Fukuoka Kenjin Kai, and Kumamoto Doshi Kai. Mom felt honored to be an RSVP volunteer, and the many who befriended her brought her much joy and serenity. Mom's humility was such that she did not realize that she had the very special and unique gift of a rare essence that embraced the good in others. We love you very much, Mom; you will always be in our hearts.
