Genée, affectionately known as Née, was born on March 12, 1962, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was the oldest of three children from Virginia ("Virg" Riola) DeMello and the late Gene DeMello, Sr. She attended elementary and middle school in Kailua and was a 1980 graduate of Kamehameha Schools. Genée obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and an Associates in English from the University of Northern Colorado in 1984. Née later earned her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in May of 2001. Genée was a dedicated 35-year professional in the field of early childhood development. During her career, she worked as a center director and administrator for various private and governmental child development agencies, developing accreditation expertise through her roles as a lead trainer, director, and teacher.
Genée is survived by her son Brandon Pomaikaiikealohaahonuiana`auao Najarian (Lanée), of Honolulu, Hawaii, her mother Virginia ("Virg" Riola) DeMello of Kailua, Hawaii, brother, Gene DeMello, Jr. (Robin) of Honolulu, Hawaii, and sister, Genelle L. Gliem (Troy) of Rochester, Minnesota, as well as three nephews, Tyler Kamalapuaonaonaikealapoina`ole and Tanner Kealohapau'ole Gliem and Hunter Lee DeMello. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene DeMello, Sr.
