Born in 1924, in Los Angeles, California, he was always athletic and competed in gymnastics and swimming. During World War II, Ed joined the Navy serving in Hawaii and on ships in the Pacific.
After the Navy, he became a high school math teacher. He taught at Westchester High School in Los Angeles and both Kalani and McKinley High Schools in Hawaii.
During this time, he moved his family aboard a sailing boat named Vela and they embarked on many adventures. They visited Mexico, Tahiti, the Tuamotos, and the Marquesas. When Ed retired, he moved to Kauai and lived in Hanalei for over 30 years. It was his longstanding tradition to run and swim in Hanalei Bay every day for exercise. His love of the water would continue, with visits to the beach accompanied by his family for swimming, every weekend up to the time of his passing.
A wonderful father, grandfather, and friend, his life touched many and he will be sorely missed.
