At his 100th birthday celebration, a presentation of the Hawaii State Flag (flown over the state Capitol) and a citation from Hawaii Governor Ige was made to Richard for Leadership in the aviation community, both State and Federal. Another presentation of the U.S. Flag (flown over the nation's Capitol) was for services in WWII and the Berlin Air Lift. Other accomplishments: Richard was a retired Hawaiian Airlines Captain, instructor, check airman; Established the first state service Hawaii Air Ambulance Inc. in 1979; Retired USAF Major; Former Air Force Academy State Liaison Officer; Team Captain leading Star of the Sea Catholic Church/School fund drive; Leadership role in Daniel Inouye's Senate and House campaigns. Richard was proud of being chosen as the Hawaii Family of the Year 1957 and in his teens to serve in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).
Private interment will be held for the family at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific - Punchbowl where Richard will rest alongside Genevieve.
