Pop was passionate about soccer. For almost 40 years he was dedicated to coaching Hawaii's youth and was well-known in the Hawai'i soccer community. He founded Ka 'Oi Soccer Club, and coached various club and high school teams. He is most known for his 'fast footwork' sessions he ran at Waiau Park in Aiea. Pop had a great impact on many young players and their families, and he leaves behind an incredible legacy.
Pop is survived by his wife of 45 years, Loretta; daughters Thalia, Bambi, and Beatle; sons Jonathan and Braden; grandchildren: Ian, Joshua, Richard Jr., Emelie, Olivia, and Jacob; great grandchildren: Caleb, Kylah, and Karly; sisters: Genevieve, Leonora, and Carol; and brothers Kenneth, and Dennis. Pop also had many hanai children, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Leonard, and by his oldest son Bobby Boy.
A private service and Celebration of Life was held.
