Dennis grew up in the Liliha area and attended Island Paradise School, Kawananakoa Intermediate and graduated from McKinley High School, class of 1965. He left Honolulu and received his bachelors degree in accounting from Armstrong College in Berkeley California and obtained his CPA certificate.
He joined Boyle, Cowan & Company in Oakland California. Over a 50 year career with that firm, he was elevated to partner and then managing partner under the new firm name, Timpson, Garcia LLP.
Dennis took great pride in his relationships with his clients– many becoming close family friends over decades of service. He also carved out time to do pro-bono finance work fulfilling leadership and advisory roles for senior citizens services and program providers such as the Alzheimer's Services of the East Bay and J-SEI, an organization providing senior services to Japanese Americans in the Bay Area, serving as their treasurer and board member.
Dennis worked everyday until his untimely death. When people asked when he planned to retire, his famous reply was "accountants never retire, they just go out of balance". Away from his office (and even in his office) his passions were clear; San Francisco 49ers, Giants, Porsches, most kinds of car racing, traveling and grandkids.
He is survived by daughter Tracy, son Brent (Maria) and three grandchildren; Niko (age 12), Marissa (age 10) and Enzo (age 4). Also survived by brothers Gene (Roberta) and Norman, niece Jennifer (Derek) Wong and grandnephew Micah.
Private services will be held in Honolulu and Oakland. No koden.
