A VIETNAM VETERAN, HE RETIRED FROM THE U.S. AIR FORCE AFTER 21 YEARS OF HONORABLE SERVICE. HE EXTENDED HIS WORKING CAREER AS A CIVILIAN EMPLOYEE WITH U.S. NAVY.
HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS WIFE JEAN OKANEKU, PARENTS, SHINKICHI AND KANA OKANEKU, SIBLINGS KENICHI OKANEKU, JEANNETTE KOIDE, KYOSHI OKANEKU, MARGARET ASATO, KIKUE OKANEKU, AND RUBY MIYASHIRO, DAUGHTER-IN-LAW CORINNE OKANEKU.
HE IS SURVIVED BY SONS, JEROME, KYLE, STACEY, AND KYLE OKANEKU, GRAND- CHILDREN, JOLENE (MICHAEL) YEHL, LISA OKANEKU, CASON OKANEKU, KURT (TIARE) OKANEKU, AND SEAN, GREAT- GRANDCHILDREN, KIARE, KEALA, AND KALENA-RUTH, AND NUMEROUS NEPHEWS, NIECES AND COUSINS.
RESPECTING HIS WISHES, HE AND HIS WIFE WILL BE LAID TO REST AT THE NATIONAL MEMORIAL CEMETERY OF THE PACIFIC (PUNCHBOWL) AT A LATER DATE. PRIVATE SERVICES WERE HELD. THE FAMILY RESPECTFULLY REQUESTS NO KODEN (MONETARY GIFTS).
