Samuel K. Halas was born in December of 1931 and raised in Anahola, Kaua'i by his hanai mother Lucille Nani Wood & father Samuel Ka'ai'ai Kapule. Samuel's brother Charlie went to find him and brought him to Kane'ohe, O'ahu to live with his birth mother Lydia Puanani Akana Halas & hanai father Byron Miroslaw Halas. During Samuel's lifetime he became a U.S. Marine Corporal receiving a National Defense Service Medal as a MOS 0311 serving three overseas expeditions from 1947-1951, 1951-1953, and 1955. He also achieved Private First Class Honors while providing faithful service in the National Guard in 1951 & 1953 for the 298th Infantry. Upon receiving his honorable discharge he went into civilian work as a Truck driver & Rigger at the Pearl Harbor Shipyard. The love of his life; Emily P.K. Halas was born in April of 1934 and raised in Kahalu'u, O'ahu by her mother Cecilia Kaena Sharpe & father William Pu'ukini Kapu. Emily graduated from St Francis class of 1953, went on to complete college in Texas obtaining her Nursing degree and also served in the Army for three years as an Operating Room Specialist receiving her honorable discharge in 1958. Upon returning home to Hawai'i, Emily went to work for the Kane'ohe State Hospital achieving many appreciation awards & endless commitments to many charities. Samuel & Emily were introduced to each other by Emily's eldest sister "Kaena" Kapu Kanamu and they immediately hit it off and decided to join their vows in June of 1959. That same year they gave birth to their first daughter Adele "Pua" and later had a second daughter Donna in 1963. It was not long before Samuel & Emily were blessed with their first & only grandson "Keawe" Johnasen Halas. After having their first grandchild and serving 25 years for Hawaii State Dept of Health; Emily decided she was ready to retire in 1987 & her husband Samuel followed too after serving 37 years for the Dept of the Navy retiring in 1988. Samuel & Emily's favorite past times were going to church, doing lots and lots of yard work, and spending time traveling to Kona, Las Vegas, and Tahiti. Just a few years after their retirement Samuel & Emily also welcomed their only granddaughter Tarrah Ng. Samuel & Emily enjoyed getting together with family & friends. They always dressed to impress wearing their finest vintage aloha wear, adorned with their homegrown, handmade, sweet puakenikeni leis. They kept their hearts close to home, loved listening to Hawaiian music, and always kept faith in the Lord. Samuel & Emily were also blessed with two great grandchildren Bradley "Kahiau" & Keawe "Samuel Joseph" Johnasen Halas whom they cherished watching cartoons & eating cookies with, and hearing them speak 'olelo Hawai'i.

Samuel passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2020. Emily passed away while residing at Pohai Nani before joining her husband & the Lord on October 23, 2020. Their ashes will finally be joined together and released by Valley of the Temples and properly blessed before a Catholic Priest to receive full military honors graveside before they are interred.
