Born on January 29, 1930 and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jim earned a B.A. in psychology from DePauw University, and his M.A. and PhD in psychology from the University of Wisconsin and University of Illinois, respectively.
Jim was passionate about social justice issues, working on committees with Physicians for Social Responsibility and at the Unitarian Church of Honolulu which he attended until his health declined in recent years. He was known for having an encyclopedic mind from which he could share many details of history and science. He was also a fan of jazz and classical music.
Jim is survived by his son, Brett Lomont in Laupahoehoe, Hawaii; daughter, Diana "Didi" Lomont in Groveland, Florida; older brother, John Lomont in Tucson, Arizona; grandsons Sean Lomont and Joshua Lomont in Hawaii, and divorced wife, Jane Lomont in Clermont, Florida.
