FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Evelyn M.L. (Zane) Chong
Evelyn M.L. (Zane) ChongEvelyn Mew Lang (Zane) Chong, 91, of Waimanalo, crossed over peacefully and into the hands of our Lord with a smile on her face on June 30, 2021. She retired as a public elementary school teacher having taught at a couple of schools before becoming a teacher at Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate School in 1954. where he taught mostly kindergarten until her retirement 20+ years later. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, she attended Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, then returned home to Hawaii to finish her teaching credentials at UH Manoa. While her first love was always teaching children at Waimanalo Elementary, she was an accomplished ceramicist. After retiring as a school teach, she joined her late husband, Walter F.L. Chong, who retired the same week from the Federal Government as a civil engineer to both become full-time ranchers/farmers on their property in Waimanalo "Anuenue Acres".

Mrs. Chong or "Aunty Eva" as she was more affectionately called after her retirement as a teacher, was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, parents, Harry T. and Katherine Y. Zane, and her sister, Muriel Jones. She is survived by her brother, Frederick A. Zane, and her son, Robert "Bobby" A. Chong, along with nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of life and committal service are being held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific later this month. Donations in memory of Aunty Eva will be made to Adventist Health Castle. A special mahalo shout-out goes to caregivers Franchele, Sherron, Tristin and the loving staff at Kina'Ole Estate Elima for their outstanding support of Aunty Eva and their emotional support for her son Bobby, until she peacefully transitioned to life eternal with dignity and grace to be with our Lord.
