James Frederick Grogan
James Frederick GroganJames Frederick Grogan passed away July 18th following a fall at his Kailua home. Born in Galesburg, Illinois in 1930, he graduated from the University of Louisville, Speed School of Engineering in 1955, and served in the Air Force until 1957. He moved to Hawaii in 1966 on a nine-month assignment as a nuclear engineer for Westinghouse Electric at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and became a life-long resident of Hawaii. After leaving the shipyard he was employed at the City and County's Waste to Energy plant until his retirement. He took great pleasure in retirement, enjoying Hawaii's warm weather and cool breezes.

Jim served as a deacon and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, the Blood Bank and was active in the local chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers - working to celebrate local engineering achievements and promoting Cooperative Engineering Education. In his free time, he enjoyed building and flying model aircraft.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Shelton Grogan of 65 years and his son James Edward Grogan (Christine), and three grandchildren Olivia, Peter, and Levi of Baltimore, Maryland.

Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Ko'olau, Sunday, October 3rd at 12:30pm.
