JEAN LOUISE THOMPSON MERLET
Jean Merlet, 94, died at her home in Sunset Beach on August 5, 2021. She was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota on November 15, 1926. She was married to Charles (Chuck) F. Merlet (dec'd) for 47 years. They moved to Hawaii in 1985 to be close to their 3 daughters & families, all North Shore residents. She is survived by Laurie and Dave Hara, Lynn and Walt Ishii and Lesley and Wayne Gemeno, as well as 4 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren, Rainos and Taylor Hayes, Devon and Steve Peterson and son, Yikirta, David and Mari Ishii and daughter, Miya, and Dana and Ryan Dowden and daughter Wren.
Throughout her life, Jean was active in both church and community organizations. She was a member and past president of the North Shore Outdoor Circle. She worked on getting the Sunset Beach bike path built as well as many years of landscaping & maintenance. She also spent 22 years as a volunteer tax preparer for the IRS & AARP program, serving low income & elderly people in Kahuku & Haleiwa. She will be remembered by many as a generous, loving and caring person who made the space around her a better place in this world.
