Whether someone knew her from growing up in Kaimuki, or her carefree hippie days at Kalani High School, her 40 years in Kailua as a fastidious bookkeeper, on the craft fair circuit, or in retirement in Kamuela, she is remembered the same way: as someone who loved wholeheartedly, whose quick wit always made you laugh and feel like you were on the inside of an inside joke, and who was a rock to her family and friends. She was practical, smart and generous, and reliably took care of everything and everyone. She named all her pets and Christmas trees "Roy", could magically sew or cook anything, and loved making and keeping traditions. Karen made even the most mundane events worthy of a champagne toast.
So here's a toast to you, Karen - COSTA STRONG!
