Stanley Akira Shimizu
Stanley Akira ShimizuBorn 82 years ago in Ka`u on Hawaii Island, Stanley passed away at home, after a short illness on September 10, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Stanley grew up in Kealakekua and graduated from Konawaena High School in 1957. He was the second son of George and Haruno (Daisy) Shimizu. Preceded in death by his brother, George and sister, Leatrice, he is survived by his wife, Mary; children: Cy (Margaret), Eri (Kimble Poon) and Rehn; grandchildren Jeremiah and Zoe Shimizu, Kingston and Vivienne Poon; his older sister, Patsy Jagbandhansingh and cousins, nephews and nieces.

Stanley attended the University of Wisconsin and the University of Hawaii. He earned his painting contractor's license and began S. Shimizu Painting in October 1974. He recently got his EPA designation. He took pride in his work and trained his folks to take the time to do the job well and right.

He loved boxing, chess, Japanese history, samurai movies, old westerns, and beef. He was a great cook and did most of the cooking for his family. In recent years he traveled with family to Europe and Asia. Vegas was an annual stop. He was looking forward to another trip to Japan. He recently took up kanji and could tell you the story behind many of the brush strokes. His last wish was that his grandchildren learn kanji and use his books.

Private services have been held.
The family requests no flowers or koden. Donations may be made in his name to the UH Cancer Research Center or Malama Ola Hospice.
