Howard Martinsen
91, a genuine, old-school gentleman of Kailua, Hawai'i, was born to eternal life on June 2, 2021 in 'Ewa, Hawai'i. He was born in March 1930 in Lahaina, Hawai'i to Fred Nalei and Masuyo "Alice" (Murakawa) Martinsen. The younger of two sons, Howard loved growing up on the oceanfront in Lahaina with his many cousins, attending Kamehameha III School, fishing off Mala Wharf and the pineapple flumes, summers in Ulupalakua, and taking to the sea with his dog, Jimmy, in his tin tub boat. At 13, Howard moved to O'ahu to attend Kamehameha Schools where many knew him as "Buddha". A proud member of the Great c/o '48, Howard had fond memories of friends, dorm life, and football; a Warrior til the end! In May 1957, Howard married his lifelong love, Barbara Jean "Bobbie" Camacho. They welcomed their son, Nalei, and daughter, Helen. In 1961, they moved to Olomana, Kailua, their forever home. There, they welcomed their daughter, Cissy, completing their family. Family was always number one. Howard and Bobbie loved their friends and their children's friends as family; their home was always open to all. The family enjoyed many memorable neighbor island trips to camp, fish, hike, and visit loved ones; Kamuela being their favorite destination. Howard loved being outdoors: fishing at the beach, fishing on his boat, hunting, diving, skeet shooting. Once the grandchildren came along, so did annual beach house staycations, and trips to Disneyland, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas. Howard primarily worked for Napa Auto Parts (sales, sales manager) and Dana Corporation (district sales rep), specializing in car a/c and batteries. He was a proud member of the Hawaii Army National Guard rising to the rank of Warrant Officer I. Howard was grateful to see his grandchildren, his Pride and Joy, grow into strong, loving, and pono adults. He was delighted to meet and know 6 of his 7 great-grandchildren. Precious memories; beautiful journey. MAHALO KE AKUA! Aloha, a hui hou, dear Dad/Papa. YOU are ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS. With Howard in Heaven: wife, Bobbie Martinsen; daughter, Cissy Romero; parents, Fred and Alice Martinsen; brother, Fred Howard Martinsen.
