Alvin “Butch” Jinko Tohara, Jr.
71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2022 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Born in Honolulu on December 3, 1950 to Alvin and Helen (Arakawa) Tohara. Butch was a lifelong resident of Manoa and graduated from Roosevelt High School, Class of 1968. He served in the Army National Guard and worked as a Pipefitter at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Shop 56. After his early retirement, he spent many days tending to his pets, golfing, or fishing. Butch was a member of the Yonashiro Chojin Kai and volunteered at many Okinawan Festivals over the years.
He is survived by longtime companion, Sandy Park, sisters, Gwendolyn Tohara, Cassandra Sherod, Deborah (Harry) Ginoza, brother, Craig Tohara, nieces, Shevon (Danny) Sherod-Ramirez, Hollie Ginoza, nephew, Lance Ginoza, two great-nephews, a great niece, and his beloved dog, Puka.
