88, of Aiea, was welcomed into heaven on December 14, 2021. Born in Honoka'a, Hawai'i, and raised in Lana'i City, she was the first recipient of the Hawaiian Pineapple Company's four-year college scholarship ("Dole Scholarship"). After giving her life to Christ as a young woman, she lived her life with the purpose of serving and glorifying God and was a faithful member of Grace Fellowship Hawaii. She retired from the State Department of Education as a teacher at Waimalu Elementary School. She deeply loved her family, friends, church community, former students and colleagues. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Takeshi "Ta-ke"; parents, Masaru and Hatsuko Sakamura; brother, Ray; and sisters, Dora Sakamura and Phyllis Rabang. She is survived by her sons, Neal and Ted (Ruth) Nakamura; daughters, Aileen (Rev. Jim) Playter and Elissa (Ron) Richardson; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ralph and Gerald (Nancy) Sakamura. Service 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary; visitation from 10:00 a.m. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, full vaccination or 48-hour in-person testing with negative result is required.
