JOHN EDWIN KOBAYASHI
JOHN EDWIN KOBAYASHIJohn E. Kobayashi "KOBY", 79, a long time resident of Hawaii Kai, passed away on January 12, 2022 at Straub Hospital. He grew up in Manoa and attended Punahou School, class of 1960.

After enlisting and becoming a United States Marine, he was also a proud member of an elite Force Reconnaissance unit. Upon earning his BA from the University of Hawaii, he became a REALTOR. As principal broker and owner of VIP Investments Inc., John and his wife Mary, ran a successful business until their retirement after 49 years. Holding a REALTOR Emeritus status is among his accomplishments throughout his real estate career, one of his most notable, is being the catalyst in negotiating the lease to fee in Hawaii Kai with KS Bishop Estate.

Another love of his was the outdoors and hunting. He became a State of Hawaii Hunter Education Instructor and did so for 35 years, eventually becoming a Master Instructor. His love to pass his knowledge on within this community was evident in his dedication to the program and students. His selflessness showed in his volunteer work. From the decades of giving back to Punahou to being appointed as commissioner for the "Citizens Advisory Commission on Civil Defense".

John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary (Neves), son Donny Kobayashi, sister Sylvia Koby (Bob) Berrington, and many nieces and nephews.

John, or as most of his friends knew him as "Koby", left a footprint on this earth in his lifetime. He may be gone, but definitely not forgotten.

Due to Covid restrictions and safety, private services were held.
