Dave Y. Kaneshiro
Dave Y. KaneshiroDave Y. Kaneshiro, son, brother, & uncle, passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2021. Born on Oahu, Dave grew up in Kalihi, briefly attended a private school but returned to his roots & graduated from Farrington High School in 1965.

If you met Dave for the first time, he was usually quiet. But once he got to know you, he could carry on a conversation about topics ranging from the stock market, current events, pop culture to sports.

He was a voracious reader of newspapers, magazines & books which eventually led to his majoring in library sciences, graduating from the University of Hawai'i & working as a data specialist for the State of Hawai'i Judiciary. After retiring, he spent his time keeping up with world & local events through online reading & research.

Dave was an avid investor who watched the stock market daily & invested conservatively on his favorite stocks. Though he never played organized sports, Dave was knowledgeable about player statistics & team standings for baseball, basketball, & football teams.

As a UHM alumni, Dave was also a dedicated fan of the Rainbow Warriors, attending games & cheering them on whether it was a winning or losing season. Before the Pandemic, Dave traveled yearly to Las Vegas to watch football & occasionally Wahine volleyball games.

While in Las Vegas, he could be found playing at the Blackjack table for hours, quietly celebrating his occasional wins. Never one to indulge in material things, Dave lived a simple life, never wasting or buying items that he didn't need. The one thing he did indulge in was his sweets, especially candied almonds that he enjoyed from Las Vegas.

Family was very important to Dave. As the older brother, he was there to help & assist in whatever way he could whether it was to paint, campaign, clean-up or help out financially. His family dearly misses his presence & the sharing of his stories, his knowledge, & opinions.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred & Karole Kaneshiro. He is survived by his younger brothers, Keith M., Gary T. (Jocelyn) & Kevin S. Kaneshiro along with his nieces & nephews, Kerensa (Carlos), Chris (Mayumi), Scott & Brooke.
