EDITH CLAIRE BUCKWALTEREdith Claire Buckwalter, 89, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2022. She was born in Trenton, NY on October 10, 1932 and spent her childhood in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating from The University of Michigan she packed up and moved to Honolulu in 1954 when Hawaii was still a territory. Edith was an adventurer who travelled widely in the US and to many countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and Scandinavia.

Edith taught school in Hawaii and was the Roving Reporter columnist for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin for many years. She was an animal lover and especially loved watching the birds nesting outside her apartment in Honolulu.

She is survived by nephew Keith Saxon from Missouri, niece Susan Davidson Talmadge from Texas, niece Nancy Harrison from Virginia and their 9 children and 8 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her longtime companion attorney Richard Welsh, her parents Howard and Daisy Buckwalter, and her sister Janet Saxon and her husband Gordon Saxon. The family wishes to thank Grace Ordonia for the care and friendship she gave to Edith during her last years and Beau George for years of friendship and all the help he provided Edith that allowed her to continue to live on her own for so many years. Family will meet at a later date to celebrate her life. If you wish to honor Edith, please consider donating to your favorite animal shelter or bird sanctuary in her name.
