FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Richard Yoshinao “Nao” Takayesu
Richard Yoshinao Richard Yoshinao "Nao" Takayesu passed away in Honolulu on December 24, 2021 at the age of 90. He was born in Haiku, Maui on July 6, 1931 to Giyu and Miyono Takayesu. Richard grew up in Kalihi and graduated from Farrington high school.

He worked at Schofield, Kapalama, Fort Shafter, and Pearl Harbor doing various upholstery and fabric work for the department of defense until his retirement in 1987. He often signed up for the evening and graveyard shifts using the pay differential to provide his children with a good education.

Nao enjoyed his retirement playing golf and traveling the world with Jane. Criss-crossing the mainland, they visited family, all the National Parks and all 50 states! They were the perfect team, he loved driving the wide open roads and she was the quintessential navigator. Always with a quick smile and a story to tell, Richard would proudly say that he would not have experienced any of their travels to Europe, China, Japan, Okinawa, Australia, and New Zealand if not for Jane.

Richard was preceded in death earlier in 2021 by his wife of 57 years, Jane; He is survived by sister Terry Cowper; son David (Kimberly) Takayesu; daughter Naomi (Darren Totty) Takayesu; and grandchildren Niko, Julia, and Alex.

Interment at Oahu Cemetery Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 11:00am.
