Carl "John" Schlack, 87, passed away in Carlsbad, CA the day after his 87th birthday. Born in Oroville, WA, he moved with his family to Los Angeles, CA, graduated from Inglewood High School in 1952, and immediately joined the U.S. Marine Corps.
Upon completion of boot camp, he was assigned to active duty at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay. In 1954, while stationed at what is now known as KMCAS, he married his high school sweetheart, June Mack; they were married for 67 years. During his almost 30-year career as a Marine he proudly served his country in peace and war, including three tours of duty during the Vietnam war.
He was a hard-working, do-it-yourself man who fiercely loved his family, including its many canine members. He enjoyed working in the yard raising orchids, fuchsia and bonsai and exercised his artistic bent with what was perhaps his favorite pastime: woodworking. He designed and crafted innumerable pieces including jewelry boxes, rocking chairs and children's puzzles, most of which were lovingly gifted to kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Eveline June; three children: daughter Cheri (Bill Cruzen), son Carl John, Jr. (Shauna Candia) and daughter Kim (Fred Veretto); four grandchildren: Justin, Rebecca (Elias Malfavon), Emily and Maya; and three great-grandchildren: Eveline, Camille and Elias.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Central Union Church. Visitation: 5:00 p.m.; Service: 5:30 p.m.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
