Thomas “Toku” Tokuichi Shimabukuro
Thomas Tokuichi Shimabukuro passed away peacefully on February 8, 2022 surrounded by his family. Toku was born on Maui on October 24, 1935, the only child of the late Shintoku and Yoshiko (Higa) Shimabukuro. Toku grew up in Waialae and graduated from Kaimuki High School, class of 1953. After serving in the military, Toku attended Los Angeles State College graduating with a degree in business. Upon returning to Hawaii, Toku spent most of his working years as the manager at the Flamingo Chuckwagon. After retiring, he also worked at the State Capitol and airport. Survived by children Teri (Clyde) Kanda, Mark (Gail) Shimabukuro and Jill (Calvin) Hisatake and 7 grandchildren - Patience, Melody, and Robert Kanda, Vance and Rachel Shimabukuro, and Kylie and Chase Hisatake. Toku enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and watching sports, especially football and golf. In his later years, he looked forward to spending time with family and especially his grand- children. A memorial service will be held at Hosoi Garden Mortuary on March 14, 2022. Visitation 4:00 p.m. Service begins at 5:00 p.m. Masks, vaccination card and ID or negative COVID test within 48 hours is required.
