FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Michiko Suzuki
Michiko SuzukiMichiko Suzuki was born in Honolulu on Girl's Day, 1927 to Bunkichi and Yoshi Suzuki. She was the 9th of 10 children. Aunty passed away peacefully on April 17, 2020, surrounded by family. She was 93 years young.

Throughout her life, Aunty was an indomitable spirit. After graduating from McKinley H.S., she attended the University of Hawaii and earned her BA in Sociology. She had a long and successful career at Title Guaranty of Hawaii and retired with 42 years of service. Family was everything to her and at various times of her life, she was the family's liaison to our Japan relatives, holiday planner, historian, photographer, and caregiver. In her retirement, she had an active life with friends, many of whom she met at her classes at Mo'ili'ili Community Center. She was a member of the Kaimuki Orchid Society and enjoyed raising gorgeous, award-winning blooms. She also kept busy with gardening, making guava and Surinam cherry jams, cheering for her UH Warriors and Wahine, creating photo gifts and paper crafts. She loved to capture all that was good and beautiful in her life by keeping a daily journal, with her last entry being on the morning of her passing. With her transition, the beloved nisei generation of our family comes to a close. We miss her boundless energy and zest for life, but take great comfort in knowing that she is once again with her ancestors, parents and siblings.

Aunty Michi is survived by 9 nieces and a nephew, 16 grand-nieces and nephews and 7 great-grand nieces and nephews. We extend our deepest thanks to the doctors and staff at Queen's Medical Center and Plaza Waikiki for their loving support and care of Aunty.

A celebration of life will be held at Hosoi Mortuary on Thursday, April 7. With Hosoi's guidance, the family respectfully requests that everyone bring their masks. In lieu of gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the Mo'ili'ili Community Center in memory of Michiko Suzuki or the charity of your choice. Visitation will be at 5:30pm with services to follow at 6:00pm.
